On the way to Japan, my family and I was in an aircraft that encountered a nasty turbulence. The plane felt like it was going to dive and with all the people screaming, I thought it was. I had my share of plane rides but that was the first time I have experienced it in that intensity. I felt my head was flushed and my heart was pounding hard against my chest. Negative thoughts went thru my head and I tried to recall the safety statistics of the airlines. I realized how vulnerable we were, thousands of miles up high in the sky fighting the pull of gravity. My mind was racing to recall the equations for a falling body.
I am still at an awe at the fact that we are able to travel on an aluminum bird guided by satellites and flown by intelligent human beings. We rely on the expertise and the highest safety guidelines set by the aviation standards.
With the situation beyond my control, I had to surrender to a more powerful being. I asked that it may not be our ‘time’ yet because we have so much to live for.
In layman’s words:
from http://www.casa.gov.au/airsafe/trip/turbulen.htm
“What is Turbulence?
Turbulence is air movement that normally cannot be seen. It may occur when the sky appears to be clear and can happen unexpectedly. It can be created by any number of different conditions, including atmospheric pressures, jet streams, mountain waves, cold or warm fronts, or thunderstorms.”
