New Jack Osbourne

Flipping through the channels while I enjoyed after dinner coffee with my husband last night, I saw “Jack Osbourne, Adrenaline Junkie”. I had to click on “info” to verify the channel because I had to make sure I didn’t click on MTV. I indeed clicked on Travel Channel and I was looking at a trimmed down version of Jack. I found myself watching the whole episode which was actually the finale. Although it’s old news to those who keep on top of the showbiz world, it was definitely news to me last night. I only remember hearing about him in the news when he checked himself in a rehab for substance abuse a couple of years ago(yeah, bad news makes it on the headlines most of the time). After he got out of the rehab, he somehow got introduced to an expert rock climber who then trained him to scale the 3,000-foot rock face of El Capitan(in California’s Yosemite National Park). By the end of the 6 months training Jack lost 70 pounds through an adventurous regimen(as documented by the show now on DVD). It took an impressive determination, effort and physical stamina to get to the top as a novice rock climber not to mention for someone who only got physically active in the last 6 months prior to the climb. It’s likened to learning how to ride a bike for the first time and train in a week then join the Tour de France the next.

The positive change in him is evident. Not only did he have a healthy glow but he radiated with confidence from his accomplishment. Like his trainer Mike puts it when they reached the cap: “I met a spoiled, overweight, totally unmotivated boy and I now sit right next to a changed man.”

I am truly happy for him and his family that he was able to turn himself around for the better. Famous or not, he did something that can inspire others to make positive changes in their lives. You go Jack and continue to live well.

I wanted to reply to what was written about the television showed just aired in new zealand titled ‘Adreneline rush’. I was totally and utterly inspired and moved by this brilliant program. To see someone come from such a unmotivated and seemingly shallow existence to a complete turn around: a glowing, fit, confident person! He obviously found attributes of worth and substance that he would have never have beleived were in him. I wish I could post something for him to read personally just so he could know how positively the program has influenced me and Im sure a lot of other people. If anyone knows of any website that this would be possible, please let me know.

    Hi Mary,
I also wanted to give Jack a virtual pat in the back but I couldn’t find a site for it that’s why I just blogged about it. I’m glad you were inspired by the him. You can always write him a letter.
