Verizon FIOS Rocks!
August 8, 2007 – 8:27 amGood bye copper hello fiber. As of today, we are officially off cable and DSL. We are now surfing with the speed of light courtesy of fiber optics technology. Well, it’s 30% slower than 299,792,458 metres per second to be precise. The light has to pass through different channels and exchanges but how can I complain?
We now have Internet, phone and TV hooked up on FIOS. Images on the TV are crystal clear, we feel like we bought a new TV. For Internet, we have the lowest bandwidth we can get which is 5Mbps downloading and 2Mpbs uploading. Simply beautiful! The phone, for VOIP technology it’s crystal clear with free unlimited calling within the US. What is even better is we are saving $60 a month! We have the 3-in-1 package in our area which is $99.00(plus fees and taxes of course). A big help because power rates from BGE(power company) went up 50% since last month.

This cable was installed last year in our neighborhood.
Installation experience: Mr. Ed the Verizon guy called around 8:00 am and informed me that he is coming in 5 minutes. He started his wok outside, it was in the high 90’s so early in the morning! He installed a panel outside, run the fiber and set-up the router inside. They weren’t kidding when they say 4-6 hours installation. It took a while but when he was done we were hooked up. He was very professional and even happy to give me an instant fiber optics lesson. Outstanding service.

This is the panel installed outside the house.

The optical fiber is coated with a cable insulation.

The optical fiber is within the 2 protective coatings of this already very thin string.
Can you get FiOS? If Verizon FIOS is not available in your area, Verizon Online DSL offers unlimited high-speed Internet starting at $9.99/mo. Click here to see if service is available in your area. It’s a whole much better than cable and cheaper too! Verizon FIOS is a wonderful thing!
