Exotic Delicious Mango Smoothie
August 10, 2007 – 1:16 pm
I have been making smoothies in the past months for my 5 year daughter. It’s a short cut to get her to eat her fruit(vitamin C and fiber), yogurt(calcium and friendly bacteria) and drink her milk(calcium, Vitamin A & D) with one slurp. She doesn’t like the yogurt which comes with the fruit at the bottom because she says it’s eeeky. I have to agree with her because I’m grossed out with the sticky syrup and I find them too sweet. She also found out that the sweetener is corn syrup and gave her another excuse not to like the yogurt.
So I started making smoothies with fruits that are in season. Coming from a tropical country, I enjoy mangoes. A certain variety of mangoes are imported from Mexico but they originated from the Philippines so they are also being called Manila mangoes. I do prefer this variety because they are not stringy. They also have the right balance of tartness and sweetness that I love for the flavor of the smoothies. They usually show up in Asian stores(we go to H-Mart) around March to end of July. They come in boxes with 16 pieces for $12.99, some stores may sell them per piece but at a higher price. For a delicious and nutritious drink:
Equipment: blender
For one serving:
1 chilled mango (stoned[remove seed] and spoon out of the skin, no need to chop)
1/2 cup plain yogurt (Stonyfield organic or any plain yogurt of your choice)
1/2 milk (Stonyfield organic 2% milk or any milk of your choice)
1/2 teaspoon sugar (optional or adjust to according to your taste)
Indian cuisine usually adds cardamon and/or salt and call it lassi.
Procedure: Put all ingredients in the blender and turn it on for 1 minute or until it reaches a smooth consistency. Serve in a chilled glass.

I do my best to be green by supporting organic dairy farmers. They use chemical and pesticide free cows and pastures which is beneficial for both the environment and consumer. Stonyfield Farm products are readily available in most stores including Walmart supermarket(for the best price). Check out their website for coupons: http://www.stonyfield.com/coupons/signin.cfm. Stonyfield Farms donate 10% of their profits to Earth saving projects.

Yummy! This looks really good, Tina. Thanks for sharing. For me, frugal as I am, I buy the really ripe mangoes. Sweeter and cheap!
Thanks for posting your recipe!

Is that mint leaf? Nice touch. Do you really serve it this way or is it just for pics sake? haha. Looks good!

Hi MixedNuts,
, if it’s missing she will actually go and get it herself from the pot.
Yes, it’s mint. I have a pot of mint growing and they do well during the spring and fall so I use them. The more you take the tops of the more they thrive, so might as well use them. They make anything look pretty. My daughter expects the mint leaves
