Decorating with Ebay Finds

lady1.jpgI finally remembered to post my Ebay finds again. I have a weakness for gorgeous furniture. I love anything solid wood that has been crafted with passion. I guess I can say that I have a queen’s taste with a commoner’s coffers. ;)

I have been going to furniture stores to look around and I have only been disappointed with the quality with the high price tag. I really turn up my nose on glued up saw dust as some people call it MDF. So I turned to Ebay, when I saw the set with this chair, I knew it was love at first sight! I just had to have it. No one made a bid on it because the reserve price was quite high for someone looking for a bargain. So I contacted the seller and asked why it was being sold, she said that the owner(Ambassador of some country) is leaving the country, bingo! I said I am willing to pay $500 less than what they were asking and after more negotiations, I got the whole Italian made set for 25% cost of brand new. I couldn’t even get the set here at the furniture store because the owners had it shipped from Italy. I asked if the owners smoked and the seller said no, I don’t want any furniture from a smokers house because it stinks. It’s a formal living set and no one rarely sat on them. I offered the seller $100 for delivery from Virginia to Maryland(3.5 hours drive[traffic is awful so my husband would rather pay someone to deliver it]).

I use this corner for taking pictures of the paintings I sell on Ebay. I imported the frames myself.

The furniture is Baroque style. Quality is exceptional! The detailed ornate carvings makes this chair so special. I can just imagine how much time and effort the builder took to make it as piece of art. When the covers get old and worn out I can have it re-upholstered by my neighbor who is a talented designer. But I doubt it will be worn out as quickly because the fabric is very sturdy. I just like sitting on this corner, it’s elegant yet warm and welcoming.

Buying pre-owned good quality furniture is also a way of recycling and saving the trees from being cut.

    Hi Raq,
Thanks! I plan to keep this furniture for a long long time and may just have to change the cover and foam when the time comes. The frame is worth saving.

    Hi Christianne,
Thanks! It’s really affordable considering they had to cross Beltway traffic.

What a find! A real work of art!
I just recently opened an account with ebay for getting hard to find items at cheaper price elsewhere. But I wonder if you do business in ebay and how? any tips?
I still am dreaming of letting go of my work outside of the house. If I can have a residual income, I will be all set…

    Hi Manang,
You have to find a product that everyone wants. It’s good that you are buying from Ebay, this will build up your reputation meaning about being a good customer. It’s important to maintain a high rating if you want to become a seller.
