Crazy over Melt Away Mints
December 30, 2007 – 1:48 pm
I just had to see my hair stylist(Michelle) during this season and I happen to catch her during her day-off. She works in an upscale spa but she also works at a barbershop on Thursdays where I discovered her when she was cutting my husband’s hair. Anyway, to cut the story short, I asked her so nicely if she can do something for us(my husband, me and daughter) needed hair cuts. So she thought for a while and she said if we didn’t mind going over to her house. She was kind enough to take us in so short notice because she knows we are just visiting over this side of the bay and getting a schedule during weekdays isn’t easy to squeeze in. We gladly and quickly went over to her home after we had our late breakfast and we found out that she lives within a mile radius.
During our “visit” she introduced us to these wonderful mints that melt in your mouth, she even gave a little zippy bag of them to my daughter. It’s not only when we got home when I was able to enjoy the mints and they went so well with coffee. My husband and I got hooked! The next day my daughter asked if she can get some more of those mints and I said yes thinking that she will only get a handful of them. My husband was fixing coffee that afternoon and I was looking forward to getting a handful of the melt away mints only to find out that the little minx ate them all! I didn’t know what brand they were and today I looked for them at Walmart only to be dismayed that the didn’t have them. When we got home, I searched for them online not knowing what they were. After a few minutes, eureka! They are Hickory Farms Melt Away Mints.
But wait! I also found out that 7 itsy-bitsy pieces have 210 calories and 11 grams of saturated fat! Oh my gosh, it’s loaded with hydrogenated oil. That was such a let down because I was ready to order them from Amazon. I was expecting that it was made of the good stuff because $15 for 2 14 oz bags is gourmet to me.
Is it too much to ask Hickory Farms to make no trans fats Melt Away Mints? Pleaseeeeeeee!
I found a recipe for a homemade version and knowing that it’s made of sugar and butter(carbohydrates and fat) with mint flavor makes me think twice. Maybe I’ll just stick with mint tea.

These look good. Sadly most of the food that taste good are not healthy. Happy New Year!

Hi MixNuts,
It’s really disappointing but I am now trying to find better substitutes. Happy New Year to you too!

Well, as they say, if it was not forbidden it wouldn’t have tasted so good!!!
Just drown it with a tall glass of water (chuckle)

Hi Princess,
Downing it with a tall glass of water won’t dissolve the trans fats. This is the not good fats because the body don’t know how to process it.
