Awesome CowPots™

I watched a new episode of Dirty Jobs earlier this evening and I have been inspired to write about it. This time Mike interned with the awesome farmer/inventor/entrepreneur who makes CowPots™ . “Matt and Ben Freund are second generation dairy farmers in the northwest hills of Connecticut.” They maximized what most people would think is a pile of smelly poo. I suggest you watch the poo pot maker episode of Dirty Jobs to really appreciate what trouble they go through to make renewable energy and biodegradable natural fertilizer pots. [Read more...]

Exotic Delicious Mango Smoothie

I have been making smoothies in the past months for my 5 year daughter. It’s a short cut to get her to eat her fruit(vitamin C and fiber), yogurt(calcium and friendly bacteria) and drink her milk(calcium, Vitamin A & D) with one slurp. She doesn’t like the yogurt which comes with the fruit at the bottom because she says it’s eeeky. I have to agree with her because I’m grossed out with the sticky syrup and I find them too sweet. She also found out that the sweetener is corn syrup and gave her another excuse not to like the yogurt.

So I started making smoothies with fruits that are in season. Coming from a tropical country, I enjoy mangoes. A certain variety of mangoes are imported from Mexico but they originated from the Philippines so they are also being called Manila mangoes. I do prefer this variety because they are not stringy. They also have the right balance of tartness and sweetness that I love for the flavor of the smoothies. They usually show up in Asian stores(we go to H-Mart) around March to end of July. They come in boxes with 16 pieces for $12.99, some stores may sell them per piece but at a higher price. For a delicious and nutritious drink: [Read more...]

Chipotle – Good Fast Food!

I have been craving Mexican food and being 3 hours away from my favorite Mex restaurant, I had to think of althernatives(3 TexMex places are out of the list, tried them once and will not reconsider). I remembered my husband talking about a taco place that his co-worker was recommending before. I was pretty adamant at first because I have a taste in mind that should be satisfied and if I get something that isn’t at par with what I was expecting, I will just be disappointed and hungry.

We went to Chipotle in Arundel Mills at around 5:30pm, parking was a bit tight. The place is quite straightforward, clients form a single queue and wait for their turn to be served. The line was short and has gotten longer as we got to the front but went pretty quick, the menu is simple and easy to understand. We opted for the soft tacos. There is a choice of meat(pork, beef, chicken, vegetarian), specify the degree of heat of the spice. It’s good to know that they use organic meats(they don’t use hormones or antibiotics used in mass produced meat). Lettuce, tomatoes, onions, corn, and cheese come with the package. You are given the choice to add on salsa, gaucamole, chips, sour cream. [Read more...]
