2007 1st Christmas Tree Blog Parade: MyGoodFinds Style

Growing up in Baguio(City of Pines) where American influence is strong, the Christmas tree has long been a part of our own Christmas tradition. We have a live tree along the cross intersection of Magsaysay Avenue and Session road which is decorated yearly. I grew up thinking that everyone else had evergreens like Pine trees and Cypress trees in which they can trim and use the branches to fashion into the popular cone shape Christmas tree. It is illegal to cut trees(no matter what size) and my Papa was able to perfect the craft of making a Christmas tree from branches. I used to be the one who would bugged Papa to start making the tree.

Here in the US, we have Christmas tree farms where they grow the trees like crops. So rest easy that they are not cutting down trees from the evergreen forests. I saw a documentary on TV on how they grow the trees. It takes 12 years for an average tree to grow and takes a lot of hard work. The farmers have to continuously prune the trees to make it look like the cone shape that we envision how a Christmas tree would look like. Seeing that on TV makes me feel that we aren’t paying too much for the tree($29 for 6-7ft) but I just hope that 75% of the profit goes to the farmers who did most of the work. I would rather support farmers here in the US than factories in China.
I love the smell of the house when we bring in the fresh Christmas tree(a Fraser fir or also known as Balsam tree), To me it’s part of the whole feel of Christmas smell. The tree is beautiful by itself that’s why when we decorate it we only use ornaments that would show off it’s natural essence.
I was really impressed when I was still dating my hubby, he invited me to his apartment and he had a live Christmas tree. So it’s been our family tradition to pick out a fresh tree every year. This year upon my daughter’s insistence, we got the tree a week early. It really makes such a big difference when you have a child in the house during Christmas, their enthusiasm for the season is infectious. I believe that Christmas is all about optimism towards life and that no matter how bad things look there is still hope.
I can’t choose which picture of the tree is better, so I posted them both.
My mom used the say that you shouldn’t wear too much jewelry or else you will look like a Christmas tree. I tell my daughter the same thing now. My daughter has been very enthusiastic to help decorate since she was 14 months old. She has broken some glass bulbs but she was honest enough to tell me that she swept it under the covers. I don’t scold her if she told me about the “accident.”
Every year my two of my SILs send special ornaments for Christmas presents and we treasure them.
Love Snoopy! These little ornaments that have been gifted by friends and family makes the tree even more special.
